So yeah, as some of you may know, I'm a 1.5 person, not a T1, mainly because they don't have T1 tournaments around Syracuse on a regular basis. But we had one today (and there's one Saturday too), so I decided to play what I always play, Dragon. I quickly get a list (thanks Jander78), and alter it to what I currently have on me. Anywho, here's how it goes: So yeah, here's what happens before tournament: I wake up at 11:30. I get dressed, breakfast, etc. I'm ok for waking up, because I went to bed at 11 last night (Yes, 11 pm. Bunch of Douche downstairs, didn't want to get sucked in), and didn't drink anything (sigh...). I get onto Altered States website to double-check the time, and it says 11 am. Yikes. I check on here, and it says 1 pm. Phew. Anywho, I get to Altered, and I see the only team member there so far, Mike (Mr. T). I also see Eli and Carl, and some others. Then I sit next to Ross (bestest), and we go over our decks (he played Dragon as well). After some wait, we begin as we scrap up the 20 people needed for the cash prize. I couldn't complete my sideboard due to missing Pernicious Deeds and Verdant Forces, so I threw random stuff in there. Here's the list: 4 Worldgorger Dragon 4 Squee, Goblin Nabob 1 Ambassador Laquatus 1 Sliver Queen** (Noticed people packing maindeck Gaea's Blessing, aka Carl Winter.) 3 Animate Dead 2 Dance of the Dead 3 Necromancy 4 Duress 3 Force of Will 1 Chain of Vapor 3 Lim-Dul's Vault 3 Intuition 2 Compulsion 1 Ancestral Recall 4 Bazaar of Baghdad 4 Polluted Delta 4 Underground Sea 4 Dark Ritual 2 Bayou 1 Tropical Island 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Sapphire 1 Mox Emerald 1 Black Lotus Sideboard: 3 Xantid Swarm 3 Stifle 2 Tormod's Crypt 2 Verdant Force 2 Cabal Therapy 1 Crater Hellion 1 Pernicious Deed (told you I missed some...) 1 Chain of Vapor If possible, don't bash the decklist. I realize it's missing Sol Ring, Mana Crypt, Demonic, and Vampiric, in addition to the rest of the P9, but I recently traded away all of the extra T1 stuff I had, thanks to the assholes at Altered States for not having regular T1, so I was stuck without. Anywho: Round 1: Alex Melnikow(sp?), playing Gobvantage: Game 1: We both open up slowly, and he has his turn 2 Goblin Recruiter Forced. I have a turn 2 Bazaar, but don't have the 3rd mana to cast Necromancy, and the Bazaar is wasted. After a while trying to find the next land to cast Necromancy, he slaps down Goblin Warchief, Piledriver, and Goblin Sharpshooter. I'm at 4 life. What do I draw that turn...Bazaar. I activate it, play a Mox, and cast Necromancy. Unfortunately, I don't get the Chain of Vapor in the deck within the top 6 cards, and I die. I'd write sideboarding if I could remember it, but I can't remember any sideboarding except for the finals. Game 2: I have a turn 1 Bazaar. Mmmmm. That gets rid of Dragon, Squee, Squee. He plays Crypt, I Force. On my turn I play a Mox, activate Bazaar, and don't find another land. He plays a Recruiter, then next turn I combo. Game 3: The details of this game are unknown, for I can't remember them. But I remember I win before turn 4. 2-1, 1-0 Round 2: Marcus Guy, playing Goblin Sligh: Game 1: He has the early beats in Goblin Cadets and Piledriver, but Dragon is my friend, and I combo on turn 4 by ripping Bazaar off the top of the deck. Game 2: He plays land, Pup, go. I play land, Mox, go. He plays land, Wasteland, I Force. He attack. On my turn I play Bazaar, ditch Dragon, play a Mox --> Animate, and win. 4-1, 2-0 Round 3: Ra, playing Sligh: For some odd reason, there's a high concentration of red today. Well, there were 4 players, and I played 3 the 1st 3 rounds(and the 4th in Top4). Game 1: He plays some burn, and wastes a Bazaar, which prevents me from milling the deck to go nuts. At around 15 life, I rip Vault, and cast Vault to get me Bazaar and Ambassador in the same 5 cards. I win turn 5. Game 2: He plays turn 1 Crypt, which I Force, and turn 2 Ankh. I play turn 2 Bazaar, Mox Sapphire, Chain of Vapor the Ankh, and cast Ritual --> Necromancy to win. 6-1, 3-0 I ID round 4, and go into top8 at the 1st seed. Top 8 of what I can remember looked like this (not in this order): 6-1, 3-0-1 Myself Eli Kassis Joe Weber (joewhatever) Carl Winter (CrazyCarl) Random Kid Josh Ocshe (sp?) Alex Melnikow Some other random person (Sorry, never knew who this was) Top 8: Josh Osche, playing TnT: Game 1: I Duress him turn 1, and take a Lotus. He plays turn 1 Welder. I play a Bazaar, activate, ditch Dragon, and play Ritual Necromancy for the win. Game 2: I open a great hand. He plays turn 1 Welder, I play turn 1 Duress, taking Surival. He play a Strip and takes out my mana source. Balls. I play a Bazaar, and start to activate. I play a Mox, and I'm one mana off from casting Dance. He plays a Juggernaut. I draw again, Bazaar again, and no mana source. He attacks, and I'm at 5. I draw, and get the mana source. I Animate Dragon, and he Naturalizes. Hm, I didn't see that coming for some reason. I lose all my permanents, then lose next turn. Game 3: I open with Bazaar and double Squee, and have a chance for a turn 2 win. I Duress him twice to take a Survival and a Naturalize, but I can't find an Animate spell. He isn't doing much either, beating me with a Goblin Welder and a Quirion Ranger until I'm at 13 life. I finally rip a Dance off of double-Bazaar activation, Duress him to find a Mox and an Uktabi, and Dance for the win. 8-2, 4-0-1 Top 4: Joe Weber, playing Sligh: Game 1: He plays a turn 1 Jackal Pup, and I Duress turn 1 and take a Lightning Bolt. turn 2 he plays Slith FireWalker. I play an Island and pass. He attacks, plays a Wasteland, and says go. I Vault end of turn, and get a Bazaar. I play Bazaar, ditch Sliver Queen, and Animate the Queen. She holds off long enough, and makes blockers, and she rides to victory. Game 2: He has an early start with turn 1 Pup. I play a land, go. He plays Sligh Firewalker, I Force. He then plays a turn 3 Ankh. I rip Vault the next turn at around 12 life. I cast it, and get Sliver Queen and Bazaar in the same 5 cards. He attacks, plays a Pup, then passes. I play Bazaar (8 life), activate, then Animate Queen off Ritual, and make a 1/1 blocker. He Bolts me, then Fireblasts me. He draws... nothing. I start attacking, and pooping 1/1's. He has 3 turns to draw a burn spell, and never does. I get really lucky escaping from that. 10-2, 5-0-1 Finals: CrazyCarl, playing 1997 Keeper: I was rather nervous playing Carl, after watching him rip 7 cards in a row in the top 8 which made him win. I was thinking his mizing skills may be superior to my own, but my ninj4 hoodie and ninj4 action figure would bring the fight. Game 1: I play turn 1 Duress, and find he kept a lousy hand. I turn 2 Vault, and set up for the win. I cast turn 3 Duress, and am 1 mana short of casting Necromancy (Damn you!). After a little while, I rip the 3rd Duress, and Animate Sliver Queen for the win, because someone runs maindeck Gaea's Blessing in their 1997 Keeper. Game 2: I'd rather not talk about this game....Let's just put it this way: After 20 minutes of nothing , he tells me his hand of: 3 Mana Drain, Stifle, StP, Force of Will. Game 3: I have a monster of a hand. I play Sea, Duress, to find: 2x Land, Mox, StP, Force, FoF, Braingeyser. I took the StP, then played an Emerald --> Xantid Swarm. He plays his land and Mox, and passes. I draw my card, attack, then cast Ancestral. then play a land, Mox, and pass. He uses his Fetchland, but I Stifle (ph34r). To make a long story short, Xantid Swarm attacks until I draw Vault, then I play Bazaar, dump Dragon, and win. GG 10-3, 6-0-1 So yeah, I take $200 and go home happy. Props: Dragon: For being great, when your decklist isn't great. Me: For being great, as well. Carl: For being a miz0r, and a good opponent. All other opponents: for being good opponents. Jander78: For sending me the decklist the day before. Good man. Slops: Mike Glow: For not being there when he says he will be. Blatant Liar. The rest of Team Evolution: For being too hungover to even show up. Any other random people who get slops. So yeah, enjoy.
